March isn’t just another month on the calendar here at The Self-Care Corner PLLC. It is a powerhouse of celebration, reflection, and deep-seated purpose. As we navigate the early days of 2026, we find ourselves at a unique intersection where three vital movements meet: Social Work Month, Recreation Therapy Month, and Women’s History Month.
Individually, these celebrations highlight essential parts of the human experience. But together? They represent the "Power of Three": the trifecta of advocacy, joy, and leadership that fuels everything we do. Whether you are seeking online therapy in Georgia, looking for support in Tennessee, or joining us from Alabama or Florida, this month is about recognizing the layers of identity and the professional support systems that help us thrive.
Uplift. Defend. Transform: The Heart of Social Work
This year’s Social Work Month theme, "Uplift. Defend. Transform," resonates deeply with our mission. When we talk about virtual mental health counseling, it’s easy to focus solely on the individual "work" done in a session. But social work reminds us that we don’t exist in a vacuum. We are part of families, communities, and systems that either help us grow or hold us back.
Social workers are the bridge-builders. They don’t just listen to your story; they advocate for your right to have a story worth telling. They "Uplift" by recognizing the inherent dignity in every person, "Defend" the vulnerable by challenging systemic barriers, and "Transform" the landscape of mental health by pushing for equity and access.
In our practice, this looks like providing a safe space where your cultural background and life experiences aren't just acknowledged: they are honored. We know that sometimes, the "weight in your chest" isn't just about personal anxiety; it’s about the stress of navigating a world that doesn’t always see you. By integrating social work values into our therapy, we help you transform that weight into a foundation for resilience.

Recreation Therapy: The Renovation of Joy
While social work addresses the systems, Recreation Therapy addresses the soul through movement, play, and creativity. We often think of therapy as sitting on a couch (virtual or otherwise) and talking through the hard stuff. And while that is vital, we believe that healing also happens when you move your body and engage your senses.
We like to think of healing as a renovation project. Just like you wouldn’t try to fix a house by only staring at the broken pipes, you can’t fix a life by only staring at the trauma. You have to bring in new materials, fresh paint, and: most importantly: space for living.
Recreation therapy is that "living" part. It’s about:
Healing through Joy: Finding things that make your heart rate jump in a good way: like dancing, painting, or hiking.
Movement as Medicine: Breaking the stagnation that often comes with depression or burnout.
Playful Recovery: Remembering that as adults, we still need the freedom to explore without the pressure of "productivity."
When we incorporate self care therapy techniques that involve recreation, we are helping you renovate your daily routine. It’s about finding a hobby that makes you forget your phone exists or a physical activity that reminds you of your strength. For our clients in the sunny corridors of Florida or the rolling hills of Tennessee, we encourage you to step outside and let the environment be part of your therapy.

Leading the Change: Women’s Month and the Power of Ownership
March is also Women’s History Month, and the theme for 2026 is "Leading the Change." As a Black woman-owned business, this hits home. Leadership isn't just about being at the top; it’s about creating a table where everyone can sit. It’s about sustainability: not just for the planet, but for our spirits and our communities.
"Leading the Change" means looking at the old ways of doing things: the ways that led to burnout, perfectionism, and self-neglect: and saying, "We’re doing it differently now." It means prioritizing rest as a revolutionary act.
At The Self-Care Corner PLLC, leading the change involves:
Representation: Ensuring that when you log on for virtual mental health counseling, you see professionals who understand your nuances.
Sustainability: Teaching you how to age with purpose and maintain your mental health for the long haul, not just for a crisis.
Community Resilience: Building a network of women across Georgia, Alabama, and beyond who are committed to their own growth and the growth of those around them.
Being a visionary and inspirational practice means we aren't just looking at where you are today; we are looking at the woman you are becoming. We see the "messy" parts of your growth as the evidence of your progress. It takes courage to break down the walls of who you were taught to be so you can build the woman you were meant to be.
The Intersection: Where We Meet You
You might be wondering, "How do social work, recreation, and women’s leadership all fit together for my mental health?"
Think of it like this:
Social Work provides the safety and the "why."
Recreation Therapy provides the energy and the "how."
Women’s Leadership provides the vision and the "where."
When you reach out for online therapy in Tennessee or Georgia, you aren't just getting a listener. You’re getting a partner in your renovation. We use grounding techniques to help when your body feels like it’s on high alert: maybe your palms are sweaty, or your breathing is shallow. We help you find that center, using the visionary tools of our trade to guide you back to yourself.
